HIKMICRO Analyzer on a Mac: what to do with HIKMICRO images

HIKMICRO cameras are popular because they offer a lot of resolution for the money. The desktop software that reads their radiometric images is Windows-only, which leaves Mac users with the phone app or a borrowed PC.

HIKMICRO's desktop analysis software runs on Windows only. On a Mac you can use HIKMICRO's mobile app for quick checks, run the Windows software in a virtual machine, or ask the camera to export reports directly. HeatDeck's HIKMICRO support is coming soon; today it opens FLIR radiometric JPEG and InfiRay / Topdon .irg files on Mac and Windows, so mixed teams can already put those cameras in one report.

Why HIKMICRO images need HIKMICRO software

Like every thermal brand, HIKMICRO saves its radiometric data in its own encoding inside the image file. A generic viewer shows the coloured image; the temperatures need a decoder that understands HIKMICRO's format. Until another app supports it, that decoder is HIKMICRO's own software.

Mac options today

  • The phone app. Fine for checking a few images and making a quick share, less so for a 60-image report.
  • A Windows virtual machine running HIKMICRO's desktop analyser on the Mac.
  • On-camera reports, on models that support them, for simple jobs.

HeatDeck and HIKMICRO

HIKMICRO is on HeatDeck's format list and marked coming soon until the reader handles the files reliably. When it ships, HIKMICRO images open in the same batch as FLIR and InfiRay / Topdon files, with the temperature under the cursor, spot, box and line tools, emissivity correction, a shared palette and a single PDF report. That matters most for teams where the subcontractor's camera isn't the same brand as yours.
